People brave wind and rain to celebrate Morecambe Pride in style
Crowds of people gathered on Morecambe seafront this weekend to celebrate Morecambe Pride in the wind and rain.
The day-long event was free to anyone hoping to attend and saw a line-up of performers take to the stage near the promenade, including a George Michael and Elton John tribute acts. It comes after a U-turn on funding saw Morecambe Pride Festival backed by the council. Crowds of people headed to Morecambe promenade over the weekend . People fought through wind and rain to celebrate the festival and enjoy live sets from the likes of Jessie Dale, Vinnie McKee and tribute acts Pete Valentine as George Michael and Andy Crosbie as Elton John.Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service and Morecambe Town Council were both seen walking through the promenade parade. A Morecambe Town Council sign read: "Morecambe is for everyone".
In pictures: Morecambe Pride 2022 View gallery Despite the weather conditions, people attended in glitter and rainbow flags to dance around the main stage. When the rain got too much, they held rainbow umbrellas to stay dry. The U-turn on funding for Pride came at a special town council meeting held on July 9 - just three weeks before the date celebrations would take place. A second event, Vintage by the Sea, also received the council funding of £10,000. Pride was granted £7,000 witha further £3,000 allocated should they incur a loss.
