The Met Police have been criticised for failing to fine the prime minister for an event during lockdown after photos emerged of him giving a toast with other colleagues in Downing Street.
The former officer and I sat studying the photograph as controversy raged over the Met's decision to fine at least one other person at the gathering, but not Mr Johnson.
I pointed out the official red box beside the PM, evidence that perhaps he was at work as he claimed and had popped into the room briefly to say goodbye to a colleague who was leaving."I can't see how this isn't a breach of the regulations at the time. I'm just flabbergasted he wasn't fined." Detectives were initially reluctant to carry out an investigation as they said they did not look into historic lockdown breaching events, but they eventually did after coming under pressure to do so - and they said there was enough evidence.Image:While the PM was said to have been at a few parties, he was only fined once, as was his wife and the chancellor.
