The Passaic County sheriff race to represent the Democratic party in November was among the most closely watched primary elections in the state.
Thomas Adamo declaring victory in the Democratic primary for Passaic County Sheriff as party chairman John Currie joins in the applause.Passaic County sheriff candidate Thomas Adamo declared victory in the Democratic primary Tuesday night against former sheriff Jerry Speziale, who led a competing slate for the office and three seats on the county board of commissioners.
Adamo, a chief in the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office in his first run for office, is a former Republican who switched parties in February to run for sheriff as a Democrat. He got help with a strong showing by his running mates in the contested primary for three seats on the county board of commissioners.
Adamo in his first run for elected office, thanked his family, campaign staff and supporters for a race in which he had less name recognition and was outspent by Speziale. Passaic County Democratic Chairman John Currie called on Speziale for unity before introducing Adamo as the winner on Tuesday night.
