Cuong Tran, who lost his iPhone and a shoe when a panel on the plane blew out, is among seven passengers bringing a lawsuit against Boeing
A criminal probe into Boeing by the US Justice Department is further shaking public confidence in the corporate behemoth that had to make an emergency landing after a panel blew off the plane are suing the airline, the aircraft’s manufacturer and its supplier.
The lawsuit, one of several filed by passengers, was brought on Thursday in Washington at King County Superior Court in Washington state. On 5 January, the door plug tore off the left side of the jet following take-off from Portland, Oregon, en route to Ontario, California, leaving a gaping hole one passenger reportedly described as being “as wide as a refrigerator”.Following an investigation into the incident, the US National Transportation Safety Board said four key bolts had been missing from the door plug.
Boeing has not publicly commented on the inquiry, but in January chief executive David Calhoun told market analysts he is determined to “earn trust back through demonstrated action and a commitment to total transparency”. He issued an apology last month to Alaska Airlines, saying: “Boeing is accountable for what happened. We caused the problem, and we understand that.
