The Embraer E190AR, with registration number 4K-AZ65, sent a distress signal after colliding with a bird during its intended flight to Grozny, Russia. The plane hit the ground and erupted into flames. Kazakhstan 's emergency ministry reported that 42 people are likely dead, with others in critical condition.
Kazaeronavigatsiya, the Kazakhstan air navigation service, stated that the aircraft declared an emergency situation at an altitude of 2,125 feet over the Caspian Sea due to the bird collision and loss of steering control. The plane plummeted to the ground, with bad weather further complicating the emergency landing. Of the passengers on board, approximately 60 are believed to be Russian, while the nationalities of the other travelers remain unclear. Authorities in Kazakhstan continue the emergency operation. Grozny, the intended destination, is the capital of the Chechnya republic, a Russian region controlled by Vladimir Putin ally Ramzan Kadyrov, which regularly sends troops to fight in the war against Ukraine
