Virgin Atlantic have said they followed protocol, that 'routine searches' were carried out and that staff alerted the authorities who were ready to meet the plane moments after landing - before the package was found to pose no threat
Passengers on an Orlando flight back to Manchester have claimed they were told they would be searched as their plane was swarmed by authorities after a suspicious package was found by a member of cabin crew on board.

"The flight went on as normal and then as soon as we landed, we saw fire engines with their lights on, but nothing was said to us. As time was going on we were then surrounded by police and airport staff, so we became worried that something was an issue. Then they announced we'd have to leave at the back of the plane."
"The next minute they started calling seat numbers up to the front. We were called up row by row, starting at the back of the plane, to be asked if we'd seen anything. They showed us a picture of the package that looked like a football wrapped in papier-mâché. The incident sparked a huge response after authorities were informed of the package at around 10.45am. A scene remained in place around the aircraft for a number of hours, with Explosive Ordinance Disposal teams called out before the incident was stood down shortly before 4pm.
