Fairways Residential Home was slapped with the lowest rating a service can receive after their latest inspection
A care home has been found to have flammable materials and covertly administering medications to its service users.
19 people were using the service at the time of the CQC's unannounced inspection in June. In the report, it states that care plans were not person-centred nor were they up to date, meaning staff did not have good understandings of the people using the service, their risks or how to manage these. Despite these findings, the home did respond after the inspection and fire safety was improved, with work also conducted to reduce the risks for people using the service. Emergency plans were reviewed and a window restrictor had been installed.
Checks for medication was not effective at the care home, with some stocks not matching records and others not packaged or accounted for. One person was given their medication covertly, meaning they weren't aware they were taking the medication. Their inspections look at their five key questions, namely - are services safe? Are they effective? Are they caring? Are they responsive? Are they well-led? In this particular inspection, the focus was on the questions whether the service was safe and whether it was well-led, with both of these areas receiving an 'Inadequate' rating, the lowest rating a service can receive.
