Delays rose sharply during the pandemic but those waiting more than three years have been on lists since before then.Chris Hopson, chief of the NHS Providers union, said: “Hospital leaders are only too aware of the impact of delays in treatment for patients and carers. “It is a real concern to hear of exceptionally long delays and NHS trusts are doing all they can to bear down on care backlogs which have increased during the pandemic.”
A spokesperson for NHS England said: “NHS staff are working flat out to clear the backlogs that have inevitably built up throughout the pandemic.”
