'Grey's Anatomy' star Patrick Dempsey is joining 'Dexter' prequel 'Dexter: Original Sin,' playing a homicide detective. This spinoff will document Dexter, played by Christian Slater, as a child growing into a serial killer.
Dempsey will play the Miami Metro Homicide Captain Aaron Spencer, "who has a decades-long relationship with Harry Morgan," according to the press releaseLiza Esquibias is an Editorial Intern at PEOPLE. She is a rising senior majoring in Journalism at Pepperdine, where she is the editor-in-chief of the school's magazine.
In this new series, fans will get to see Dexter’s evolution from childhood, where he emerges into a serial killer. The show will highlight Dexter and his dad Harry developing a system to find people who are a detriment to society so Dexter can kill them without law enforcement finding out, according to the synopsis.
The plot twist comes when Dexter gets an internship at the Miami Metro Police Department, and has to mask the other side of him, which is where Dempsey’s character comes in.saga has been an undeniable creative and popular success for Showtime, both in its original, groundbreaking form and the record-setting," McCarthy said in a press release shared with PEOPLE at the time.
