The Derry MMA star recently signed off with Cage Warriors

Paul Hughes has joined the Professional Fighters League in a multi-fight contact with the promotion. Speculation had been rife where Hughes would end up after he signed off with Cage Warriors earlier this month.

Some fans had expected the Derry fighter to join the UFC, but it has now been confirmed the 27-year-old will compete in the PFL, which claims to be the "fastest-growing sports league worldwide". It is a major move for Hughes who dominated Cage Warriors in recent years, boasting a professional record of 11-1 and going on to become featherweight world champion before stepping up to lightweight. He said: “I am absolutely ecstatic to sign with the PFL. The regular season format, in my eyes, is the ultimate form of MMA competition and is for the ultimate prize of one million dollars.

"I'm looking forward to seeing Paul continue his journey with PFL in big fights that continue to test his skills.”
