Paul Ross Charlton tried to profit from murdering his ex-partner Joanne Howell by lodging a claim for a victims of crime compensation payout, court hears.

The prosecutor said Charlton even lodged an application for a victims of crime compensation payout, "whilst being aware that he was her killer".

"I wish I could have a moment with Jo to tell her I love her. But I have this moment to say I have justice for you Jo," Ms Hennessy said. Tanya Stevenson, Ms Howell's adopted daughter, shared the ongoing emotional toll of her mother's death, saying she felt “lost, afraid and unsafe 100 per cent of the time”.Paul Charlton was found guilty last month of murdering Joanne Howell.
