Latest Manchester United news as former captain Wayne Rooney opens up on an incident in training when he asked to leave the club back in 2010
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has said Paul Scholes once injured him in training, jokingly claiming that Sir Alex Ferguson told him to.
But the England great famously handed in a transfer request back in October 2010 after questioning the club's direction after they missed out on the Premier League title in 2009/10 to Chelsea. United had been unable to keep hold of star players Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez leading to Rooney's request to leave.
"You wanted to win them games , some of the tackles which went in were horrific," Rooney said on the Overlap with Gary Neville, brought to you by Sky Bet. "He used to stop the game and make us go in. Scholesy put me out the day before a game.
