Luke Littler has said he was relieved to beat Stephen Bunting in the semi-finals of the PDC World Championship earlier this week as it ended the 39-year-old's dreams of parading the trophy around Anfield ahead of Liverpool 's Premier League clash with Manchester United this weekend. Littler, 17, beat Fazakerley-born Bunting 6-1 in Thursday night's semi-final at Ally Pally to set up a final meeting with Michael van Gerwen.
And less than 24 hours later, the teenager had etched his name into the sport's history by defeating three-time winner Van Gerwen 7-3 in the final with a scintillating performance. But had he lost to Bunting earlier in the week, he may have been reminded of the defeat as soon as this weekend when Liverpool locked horns with Man United as Bunting revealed his intention to celebrate a potential PDC triumph at Anfield on Sunday. But after Littler defeated Van Gerwen in Friday night's final to become the youngest-ever winner of the PDC World Championship, he couldn't resist a playful jibe in the direction of Liverpool and Bunting as he revealed his plans to parade the trophy at Old Trafford soon. 'If they allow me to, then I'm sure I'll go to Old Trafford, yeah,' said Littler. 'I'm glad I beat Stephen yesterday because I'm pretty sure he was taking it to Anfield at the weekend.'
