The Peace Corps agreed to pay $750,000 after its doctor failed to properly diagnose a 24-year-old Illinois woman who died while volunteering in East Africa.

complaining of symptoms such as fever, headaches, severe dizziness, numbness and repeated vomiting. The doctor placed her on medical hold in a hotel instead of taking her to a hospital and did not administer a malaria test, though she had been exhibiting. She was advised to drink water, as well as take antacids, antihistamines and aspirin, and only a dental assistant was present at the time of her death, according to the suit.
