The peace field plaque at Withy Grove Pic: South Ribble Borough Council A call to promote peace in football has been unveiled at Withy Grove Park in Bamber

and the Armed Forces Covenant the plaque marks the 1914 Christmas truce in the First World War when soldiers undertook a game of football.

Leader of the borough council councillor Paul Foster said: “We are delighted to have unveiled such a monumental and historic symbol that represents peace in our community and beyond.“I hope those that use the pitches will take this symbol and play with the idea of peace in mind”.The plaque is found at the frotn of the Bamber Bridge sports hub.

The plaque has been offered by the National Children’s Football Alliance and the Peace Village to twin a designated area of play with Flanders Peace Fields, site of the Christmas Truce.
