Welcome back, Thomas Shelby. A new film based on hit series “Peaky Blinders,” which ran for six seasons and ended in 2022, is officially in the works, Netflix announced June 4. Cillian Murphy is returning to the big screen to reprise his role as Thomas Shelby, the head of his gangster family, as well as produce the film. Tom Harper, who directed a portion of the first season of 'Peaky Blinders,' is set to direct the movie, which will premiere on Netflix.
While not confirmed, series creators and stars had previously hinted at the movie. Series creator Steven Knight told Variety in an interview in 2021 a “Peaky Blinders” film was “in development.” “It’s a fully formed idea and it has a beginning, middle and end. And I think it’s going to be a fitting conclusion to the story told so far,” he told the outlet, in part.
