Local nonprofits benefitted by the fundraising include San Antonio Food Bank and PAWS for Service.
Bright red Giving Machines at the Pearl gave visitors the chance to donate with a push of a button during the holidays, and the final tally reached over $100,000. The Giving Machines were stationed at the Pearl 's Cellar Plaza from late November to early December, allowing generous passersby to donate anywhere from $5 to $200 toward things like meals, vision screenings and car seats.
The funds will go to San Antonio Food Bank, PAWS for Service, Catholic Charities, Inter-Faith Welcome Coalition and the Center for Refugee Services. Last year was the first time the Giving Machines came to San Antonio from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' Light of the World initiative. 'We are grateful for the partnership with Pearl and the wonderful people of San Antonio that brought goodness and generosity to so many,” church elder Jorge Contreras said in a release.
