Penn State and coach James Franklin gained its latest high school commitment from California — a rare occurrence in Happy Valley.

Penn State has not dipped into California for recruits often under coach James Franklin. Since Franklin took over in 2014, the Nittany Lions have welcomed just one other high school prospect from the state: then-4-star safety Koa Farmer in Franklin’s inaugural class.
