'Liz knows what our nation needs now - and that that isn't timidity', Penny Mordaunt said as she backs the woman who knocked her out of the contest
has thrown her support behind Liz Truss, becoming the latest senior Tories lining up behind the Foreign Secretary., Ms Mordaunt said that a break is needed from the “status quo”.
She said: “Liz knows what our nation needs now – and that that isn’t timidity. We need a bold economic vision, not the status quo, and someone who can get the hard things done. “Liz has shown she will defend freedom at home and abroad, and is prepared to do what it takes to keep us safe. That is why, with her, I believe we can deliver for the public and we can win at the ballot box.”Tory leader and Prime Minister, but was ejected from the race in the final round of voting by the party’s MPs last month.
She had received 105 votes in the final ballot, narrowly behind Ms Truss on 113 and Mr Sunak on 137 – failing to make it to the head-to-head to be decided by party members.
