An 81-year-old man died after being struck by a man who fell through a skylight while sitting in a cafe in north London. The incident occurred when a man visiting friends in the flat above the cafe climbed onto the roof and fell through the skylight.
A pensioner sitting with friends in a café was killed when a man fell through a skylight and landed on top of him in north London . Fehim Ahmet, 81, suffered brain and spinal injuries in the accident on July 7 while enjoying an evening with friends in Finsbury Park. A man, who has not been named, was visiting his own friends in the flat adjacent to the cafe when he climbed out of the window onto the roof.
He then fell through the skylight after it buckled under his weight as Fehim sat directly underneath it. The pensioner spent two weeks in hospital but died from his injuries, St Pancras Coroner’s Court heard. The café owners had previously complained to estate agencies Network Agencies about neighbours climbing onto their roof. Coroner Mary Hassell wrote: ‘Whilst sitting in a social club/café a little after 7.30pm on 7 July 2024, Mr Ahmet was hit by a man falling through the skylight above. ‘The man had gone out onto the flat roof of the café via a window from the flat above and had sat on a plastic skylight, which had then given way. ‘The man was in the property having gone round to the flat to see friends who were brand new tenants. They had rented the property from Network Agencies.’ She added there must be an obligation for estate agents to alert tenants to possible dangers at the homes they are renting. The coroner added: ‘In this instance the café owner downstairs had rung the estate agent to complain about tenants from the upstairs flat being on the roof of the café and it was reported that there were emails about this, but nobody from the estate agency had made a note or followed up with the tenants.
