State pensioners can add an extra £666 to their pension pot thanks to a little-known rule
State pensioners have the opportunity to add an extra £666 to their pension pot due to a lesser-known rule, although it would require postponing retirement for another year. The new State Pension can currently be claimed upon reaching State Pension age by men born on or after April 6, 1951, and women born on or after April 6, 1953.
A letter will be sent no later than two months before reaching State Pension age - currently 66 for both genders - offering the choice to claim the pension or defer it. If deferral is chosen, no action is required as the pension will automatically be delayed until a claim is made. Currently, for every nine weeks of deferral, the State Pension increases by 1%, equating to just under 5.8% for a full year, or £666, reports the Express.
