Experts say there are ways pensioners can reduce their bills coming into the winter
will mean millions of older households may face energy bill increases of up to 15 per cent this winter, according to analysis.The move, alongside a forecasted increase in energy bills from 1 October, means the average pensioner will see their energy bills rise significantly this winter, calculations by the End Fuel Poverty Coalition have revealed.
Simon Francis, coordinator of the End Fuel Poverty Coalition, said: “We have publicly commended the Government in taking some of the long-term measures to tackle high energy bills, such as the drive for more renewable energy and a Warm Homes Plan. But these solutions will take time to bring down bills.
This sets a fixed cost for your energy for a specified period of time, although it also means if prices drop, you won’t see a reduction, unless you pay a fee to exit your deal. “There are plenty of 12-month fixed tariffs available that are cheaper than the predicted price cap for October, which means pensioners can lock in what they pay for a year and potentially save money on their bills.”
