Over 760,000 pensioners in Great Britain face a deadline of 6pm today to apply for Pension Credit over the phone in order to receive this year's Winter Fuel Payment. The deadline for online applications is 23:59 on Saturday. The DWP has increased staff to help with the surge in claims, but a backlog means most won't receive payment until well into the new year.
An estimated 760,000 pensioners across Great Britain need to make a new clam for Pension Credit over the phone by 6pm today in order to qualify for this year's Winter Fuel Payment. People choosing to make a claim online have until 23.59 on Saturday, December 21.
The number of new Pension Credit claims per week have more than doubled since Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in July that the annual heating bill help will not be issued to all 12.9 million pensioners.
