The satellites will assist in the detection, warning, and precise tracking of advanced missile threats, including hypersonic missile systems.
The Space Development Agency has selected Millennium Space Systems to provide its planned FOO Fighter missile defense satellites. Totaling $414 million, the new contract will see Millennium deliver eight satellites for “fire control” of ground-based missile defense systems.must deliver the satellites by the first quarter of 2027.
“The FOO Fighter program will provide an operational demonstration of fire control efforts separate from, but complementary to, our missile warning/missile tracking and missile defense efforts already underway in the tranches,” explained Derek Tournear, SDA director, in a , Millennium CEO Jason Kim echoed Tournear, saying that the program is designed to counter “advanced threats.”
