‘People being spat at’: Irish star reveals major Ryder Cup problem as rowdy crowd awaits
Irish golfer Padraig Harrington has revealed his grave fears over the conduct of crowds at the Ryder Cup, claiming even the players’ families and wives being “singled out” for abuse.
The Ryder Cup typically attracts rowdy crowds who passionately support the host team in either the United States or Europe, but it has tended to spill over into some ugly behaviour.Join now and start streaming instantly > Although a number of the most well-known heckling incidents at the Ryder Cup took place in America, Harrington insists the Europeans are not absolved from any blame.
“I wish I could say it is one-way traffic, but it isn’t and we should realise that and look at our own backyard as well,” Harrington told“Some of the US team have said to me that they’ve got some inappropriate stick in Ryder Cups over here and we should bear that in mind at Rome.” Despite the players being the easiest targets for abuse, the 52-year-old revealed they aren’t the only ones who cop it.“The same as in America, the wives and families are being singled out by the hecklers as well, with some pretty awful stuff going on.
