Thousands of women may be due State Pension underpayments of up to £11,650.

The Department for Work and Pensions has updated online guidance for next of kin, or an executor of someone’s estate, on requesting information about State Pension underpayments - worth up to an average of £11,650 - for someone who has died. DWP explained that changes have been made to “provide further clarity” on the situations when people should contact them, if they believe an underlayment may have occurred.

The DWP also estimates 210,000 people may have been underpaid a further £1.3 billion due to historical issues relating to Home Responsibilities Protection . Again, this affects mostly women who received Child Benefit before 2000 and whose National Insurance record was not updated to reflect periods of HRP they were entitled to - find out more about this here.
