The Lock & Quay has become one of Bootle's most popular pubs, we spoke to the people behind it
Many people appear to have secured an early dart from the industrial estate opposite the Irlam Road pub and have decamped for a pint in the sun. Found next to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, the pub's beer garden is huge, snaking around the L-shaped building.
It has recently partnered with Bootle's new outdoor music venue Salt & Tar - which will host Tom Jones and Status Quo later this year - to be their bar partner for smaller events. As such, it is a busy time for the Lock & Quay, which calls itself Liverpool's only community microbrew pub. "I wanted to come in myself and make sure the beer garden was getting used and that it was all a bit more organised - because they weren't expecting it to be as used as it was. Immediately the local community got involved - they clearly needed it.
"We've just had to put the prices up because national minimum wage went up and duty went up. We feel guilty about that but we only do it when we absolutely have to do it.
