More than 4,260 older people are claiming Attendance Allowance for Chronic Pain Syndromes.

It is estimated that Chronic Pain Syndrome affects one in five people across Scotland and is defined as persistent pain that carries on for longer than 12 weeks, despite medication or treatment. It can also affect people living with other long-term conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome and back pain.

What is Attendance Allowance? There are currently more than 1.4 million people of State Pension age claiming this tax-free benefit from the DWP, including 127,399 in Scotland. You should also consider claiming if you need help or supervision throughout the day or night and have: It’s tax-free and you'll be exempt from the Benefit Cap so you won't have money taken away from any other benefits.
