Around 400,000 people on income-related benefits in Scotland received the one-off payment last winter.
Energy bills are set to rise by 10 per cent from October 1 after Ofgem confirmed that millions of people on the standard tariff will see the annual cost rise by £149 from £1,568 to £1,717. This means for every £100 of energy households currently pay for, an extra £10 will be added.
The devolved benefit is only available in Scotland and replaced the £25 Cold Weather Payment delivered by the Department for Work and Pensions two years ago. Unlike the DWP benefit, it is not dependent on a sustained period of cold weather in a specific location but is an annual, one-off payment made no matter the temperature.
Full details about the payment can be found on the mygov.scot website here. Below is an overview of the eligibility criteria for the payment and qualifying benefits.
