Changes are coming
Thousands of people receiving benefits including Employment & Support Allowance are being told they must switch to Universal Credit .
Overall, six benefits are being phased out as people are moved over to UC instead. The DWP first at first focused on people who were solely getting tax credits but is now including claimants who also get some of the other older benefits that face the axe.They include some people on tax credits and ESA, and others getting tax credits and Income Support.
The DWP first focused on couples who were only on tax credits but said that from this month it was including "other legacy benefit combinations" and is planning a large-scale move of different types of claimants in 2024/25. Overall, when the rollout is completed, it's estimated that 3.8 million households would be on higher payments when moved to UC, 1.2 million would receive the same amount, and 2.2 million would get transitional protection as their new benefit levels will otherwise be lower.
