To mark International TransDayOfVisibility, charity Just Like Us has exclusively shared the results of their survey into allyship 🏳️‍⚧️ They found people who know someone trans is more than twice as likely to be an ally than someone who doesn’t.

Simply knowing a trans person can almost double the likelihood they are an ally, Just Like Us found

Of them, 28% said a trans person is a close friend of theirs, the findings, shared exclusively with Metro.co.uk, said. Just Like Us pointed to the ‘fear of the unknown’ as a reason people who don’t know a trans person are less likely to be supportive ‘There is fear in the unknown and we need LGBT+ inclusive education in schools to remove the shame and stigma.’which found 0.5% of Brits are openly trans, or 262,000.

The wider LGBQ+ community, all too familiar with discrimination, overwhelmingly support trans people ‘I’m not surprised that a lot of the anti-trans sentiment comes from people who have never met a trans person,’ they said.
