Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola called for a change to how the game is refereed after a controversial VAR incident involving Liverpool this weekend.
Pep Guardiola says referees must allow players to be the 'main roles' in games, as he gave his opinion on Liverpool's controversial VAR decision at the weekend.
"It changes the job of the referee. They don’t take the decisions, now it is the job of the VAR, the important ones," he said. "But if they make a mistake with the VAR, we have a problem. Asked if it is harder to take a decision that is down to a referee error like the Diaz 'goal', Guardiola compared officials to actors, who 'have to take a step back' from being the main role in a game.
"Looking at it now in terms of how reliable it can be, overall most certainly it's helped to keep the truth," he said. "There are moments, recently we've seen some it's difficult to accept it because you expect no failure. It is what it is.
