Several Manchester City players will travel great distances in a short space of time this international break - and Pep Guardiola has revealed his frustration at the situation
The nature of Manchester City’s small squad has many benefits but some have raised concern about its depth ahead of a season that could contain 50-plus matches.
The past fortnight has clearly highlighted which players are most crucial for City. The Blues have no problem keeping the opposition in their own half but sometimes lack the creativity to unlock the low block. But there are other key areas in the current side that could lead to the team being less effective too. The obvious one is goalkeeper. Ederson may have left Guardiola sweating with his Cruyff turn versus an on-rushing Red Star Belgrade attacker last month but he is undoubtedly one player whose absence would impact the side.
Guardiola highlighted the lack of time between Brazilian Ederson’s international game and his first match back at City last month. He said: “We cannot waste energy... These guys were playing 90 minutes for the national teams and travelled like from Bolivia and Ederson from Brazil. It’s so exhausting for them.
