Premier Dominic Perrottet has dismissed suggestions there is pressure on him as the last mainland Liberal Premier as he faces a battle with the Albanese Government over landmark health reforms.
The Perrottet Government remains behind the Chris Minns-led Labor opposition in the polls less than two months out from the state election.
“No, I know that particularly at a National Cabinet level that it’s important the values that I hold as a Liberal are values of aspiration and opportunity that are important in terms of driving the success of our state,” Mr Perrottet said on Wednesday. “I believe it’s only the Liberals and Nationals that have the economic plan to help people in the short term but ultimately as well set up people for future success.
Despite sharing a good working relationship, Mr Albanese two weeks ago refused to campaign with the Premier but conceded he did “get on quite well” with his state counterpart. On top of the increased federal hospital investment, the two premiers want primary care funding for nurses and paramedics through upcoming Medicare reforms to be a joint venture with the states as well as pharmacy prescriptions, free telehealth services and an expansion of urgent care clinics.
But the Premier hit back and said the proposal should not be hamstrung by concerns of money, suggesting National Cabinet agree to the “best policy possible” and then address funding.

Landis’ comment about Premier Perrottet’s religion was a ‘cheap and nasty shot’Sky News host Andrew Bolt says there is bigotry that “even the ABC will promote” without “any worry at all about being insensitive”, which is being Catholic in public. “And New South Wales Premier Dominic Perrottet is finding that out big time,” Mr Bolt said. “Anti-Catholic hatred is now so out there, that the head of ClubsNSW today attacked Dominic Perrottet for wanting cashless debit cards to protect poker machine addicts.” Mr Bolt said ClubsNSW boss Josh Landis, who has since been sacked for comments he made about Premier Perrottet’s faith, equates “being Catholic with being blind to evidence, which is a cheap and nasty shot”. “And if Catholicism does indeed preach a deep concern for the poor and weak and the vulnerable – that’s a problem, how?”
