All trains have been stopped on lines between Newton-le-Willows and Eccles
A person has been found dead on the tracks near to a train station between Manchester and Liverpool. All trains have been suspended between Newton-le-Willows and Eccles after emergency services were called to the incident close to Newton-le-Willows station.
Officers from the British Transport Police were called to reports of a 'casualty on the tracks' shortly before 4.40pm today . Paramedics also attended and a person was pronounced dead at the scene.READ MORE: How a Greater Manchester suburb went from 'worst night out' to number one party town All lines between Newton-le-Willows and Eccles have been shut following the incident, causing cancellations and delays to rail services between Manchester and Liverpool. The disruption is expected to last until the end of the day, according to National Rail.
In a statement, a spokesperson for British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line near Newton-le-Willows railway station at 4:39pm on 15 December to reports of a casualty on the tracks. "Officers attended alongside Paramedics, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. Enquiries into the circumstances leading up to their death are ongoing.
