Personal Independence Payment (PIP) provides financial assistance to individuals with various health issues or disabling conditions. The latest figures reveal that over 3.5 million people in Great Britain, including 219,000 in Scotland, receive PIP. Successful claimants can receive between £28.70 and £184.30 per week to cover additional living and mobility costs. PIP may also grant access to means-tested benefits and potential backdating of certain benefits.
Personal Independence Payment can help people over the age of 16 and under State Pension age with the extra financial costs for more than 500 health issues or disabling conditions , which may be physical, sensory, mental, intellectual or cognitive, or any combination of these.
This is because entitlement to PIP or Adult Disability Payment in Scotland, provides a gateway or passport to other benefits, such as Carer’s Allowance, and schemes sponsored by other departments, such as the Blue Badge. “However, claimants should inform other benefit offices about their entitlement to make sure they’re paid the correct amounts, particularly if there are any changes in their circumstances and awards.”
