A councillor tabled a proposal to collect postcodes from those attending as a means of checking council funds 'were going to the right people who need it'
Perth and Kinross councillors have rejected a postcode census being taken of those who attend Warm Spaces projects across the region.
At a meeting of Perth and Kinross Council's Finance and Resources Committee on Wednesday, September 13 a request was made for more funding after last year's allocation of £420,000 was fully spent. The amendment stated: "We recognise that capturing accurate and pertinent data on the users of this service allows us to make better informed decisions in the future."
She said a "fairly extensive evaluation" was then carried out with 78 of the 120 organisations responding and added: "Based on those returns alone 16,575 across all of our areas benefited from the funding and 1049 volunteers were involved in delivering warm spaces, warm home packs and food and activities."
The Labour councillor added: "In any other case where we have a third party or external organisation delivering a service on our behalf we take steps to ensure it's reaching the right people and to understand how many people it's reaching." He added: "If there would be another way to look at this I would be perfectly happy to take that on board and change the wording on the amendment if that proved to be a better way of gathering this data.
