Tensions quickly boiled over as Peru players clashed with Spanish police
However, the Peruvian consulate contradicted those claims, with a statement at 3.55am.: “The General Consulate of Peru in Madrid informs that the player Pedro Gallese recently withdrew from the police station where he gave statements, without charges.An official police statement read: “Around 300 fans started gathering outside from about 7pm onwards.“Some began to let off flares and officers from a rapid response unit called the UIP were called in as back-up.
“A player was arrested for hitting an officer in the eye. He was taken to a nearby police station and the officer received medical attention at the scene.”
