Reality TV star Pete Wicks opens up about a traumatic incident from his childhood where he found his mother, Tracy, attempting to harm herself. The experience deeply affected him and he now acknowledges the need for therapy.
Pete Wicks has been candid about needing 'therapy' after revealing a heartbreaking incident involving his mother. The Strictly Come Dancing star opened up about a tragic event from his childhood in a recent interview. At the age of 12, Pete discovered his mother, Tracy, whom he affectionately calls his 'hero', had attempted to cut her wrists with a knife. He immediately called his grandmother, Doreen, who instructed him to hang up and call for an ambulance.
Pete shared with the Mail, 'Oh my God. My rock. Nan was the one who held me together. We never talked that much about it, but she knew. To be honest, it was only when she died (in 2022) that I started really trying to process how it had affected me.'Wicks, known for his appearance on the reality show The Only Way Is Essex, admitted he was the 'No 1 candidate for therapy'. However, he has one condition for seeking help: 'I 100% need it. I’m probably the No 1 candidate for therapy. They’d have a field day! No, I just never thought it would suit me, although I'm coming round to the idea a little more now. But it has to be in my own time.' He previously described finding Tracy sitting at the table covered in blood, and he ran to take the knife from her hand. Tracy, who raised Pete as a single mother in Harlow, Essex, after her split from his father, thankfully made a quick recovery and later told her son it was a 'moment of madness'. Pete has been open about his mother's encouragement to participate in Strictly, a competition that saw him reach the semi-finals with his professional partner, Jowita Przystal. Though, he has expressed no desire to repeat the experience. Speaking on Channel 4's Sunday Brunch earlier this month, he said he was 'glad it's over'. However, he later clarified that he enjoyed his time on the BBC show, stating he 'absolutely loved it'
