Singer Peter Andre discusses his mother and Pauline Quirke's dementia diagnoses, the importance of reading with children, tackling the blues, and his upcoming birthday. He also expresses excitement for Bear Grylls' new show and reflects on his blessings and the desire for his parents' full health.
Peter Andre opens up in his OK! column about the sad news, which was revealed last week by her devoted husband, of Pauline Qiurke's devastating dementia diagnosis three years ago - a condition the Mysterious Girl singer's mother also suffers from.
Precious moments I absolutely agree with the author Frank Cottrell-Boyce when he said that every child should have access to books to help improve their happiness. Reading is one of the things Emily and I really focus on doing with our own kids. We try and sit with them every night to either read a book or create a story ourselves. It’s an incredible bonding moment and so good for their brains.
When you have someone like Pauline, who has given so much in her field, and she is forced to step away from it not out of choice, it’s a double blow of being diagnosed and also having to give up something you love and are passionate about. My thoughts are with her and her family. When I lost my brother and I was in a bad way, Emily would encourage me to go for a walk every day. There’s so much power in keeping active, talking to your loved ones, cooking, whatever helps clear your mind a bit.
