Chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission Peter V’landys is set to pitch Australian sport to the United States after he was given a rare invite to a state dinner at the White House.

Mr V’landys travelled to the US as part of the Australian contingent on Anthony Albanese's state visit to the United States where the Prime Minister and President Joe Biden will meet to to discuss AUKUS, the Israel conflict, cyber security and critical minerals.

The deal to hold two rugby league games in Vegas in 2024 is the first step for the sport in making a splash in the US. “The whole Vegas promotion is to show how good our game is and as I said there’s 340 million people. We need to be shown every week, so we’re negotiating with Fox to see if we can be shown every week on Fox 1 and then ask them if they want more games, they subscribe to Watch NRL,” he said.
