A pregnant Nottingham mum has started a petition for a hospital trust to reinstate its full time home birth service. Mum-of-two Jess Maguire says Nottingham University Hospitals' limited service means expectant parents in the county are unable to make a choice about where they give birth.
Ms Maguire, who lives in the Meadows, gave birth to her second son at home in 2020 when NUH ran a 24-hour service. "I had my son at five in the morning, the midwife came at about 2am," she recalled. During a monthly Q&A video published on October 27, NUH's director of midwifery Sharon Wallis said the trust was doing its best to get the service up and running. "It really pains me to say that we haven't improved our home birth service," she said.
