A media and information literacy program will be undertaken by the government as part of its goal to combat fake news. ManilaBulletin READ:

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. made the statement in his speech during the 14th edition of the International Conference of Information Commissioners on Monday, June 19.

"And as part of our efforts, we will undertake a Media and Information Literacy Campaign, which shall be digital, multimedia, and youth-oriented," Marcos said before international information commissioners and ombudsmen."Our people can be assured of the continued implementation of the FOI Program in the Executive Branch, through the Presidential Communications Office ," the President further said.

In March this year, the PCO said it will be working with the public education sector to help address the challenges of institutionalizing media and information literacy in the primary and secondary education curriculum. Measures seeking to institutionalize the efforts of the Department of Education to include MIL as a core subject in the current curriculum of primary and secondary education were already introduced in both Houses of the Philippine Congress.Marcos has attended the 14th edition of ICIC, which the country is hosting. The hosting is led by the Freedom of Information – Project Management Office under the PCO.

According to the President, the FOI-PMO is the first Southeast Asian member of the ICIC and the first access to information implementing body in Asia to host the Conference.
