EXCLUSIVE: After 16 months in the wilderness following the scandal which cost him his career, Phillip Schofield is back, as a PR expert tells OK! the public could 'forgive' him...
It’s Phillip Schofield as we’ve never seen him before. Barely recognisable, looking unkempt, his famous silver fox hair overgrown and sporting a straggly beard, as he speaks to the camera completely alone in a dramatic trailer for three-part Channel 5 reality show, Cast Away, the first episode of which hit our screens on Monday.
It all adds up to quite an explosive return from the showbiz wilderness and could be very revealing indeed, if what Phil teases in the trailer makes good on its promise. And, given the former golden boy of ITV’s tumultuous journey since he disappeared off our screens, he could have rather a lot to get off his chest.
But, 16 months on from his shock downfall, it seems the shamed star could be ready for redemption - and a dramatic return to TV. As for how he may be received by the great viewing public, PR expert Lynn Carratt of Pressbox PR said, “Phillip Schofield’s return to TV will likely promote mixed reactions from the public. Some may find its time for forgiveness and a second chance, while others may believe his TV career should be over.
Prior to the big news going public, Phillip posted on his own social media with a cryptic comment, saying: "Watch this space," with a winking emoji, teasing that the news would emerge at 9am on Wednesday, 25 September. It does seem as if Phillip has maintained close relationships with many of his former ITV colleagues. He has been seen having lunch with This Morning agony aunt Vanessa Feltz, who said of his new show, she was 'surprised' but 'delighted' and in the company of Declan Donnelly.
