The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned of high tsunami waves reaching the coastal areas of the country Wednesday morning, after a magnitude-7.5 earthquake hit Taiwan.
The state seismic agency noted that the first tsunami waves were expected between 8:33 a.m. to 10:33 a.m. “It may not be the largest and these waves may continue for hours,” added Phivolcs. The state seismic agency initially listed 23 provinces, but narrowed it down to four in its latest bulletin.“Owners of boats in harbors, estuaries or shallow coastal waters of the above-mentioned provinces should secure their boats and move away from the waterfront. Boats already at sea during this period should stay offshore in deep waters until further advised,” Phivolcs said.
