Merseyside Police insists it is taking firm action after ECHO revealed huge problems in suburb to the east of Liverpool city centre
Phone boxes are being removed and houses are being tinned up in a part of Liverpool that is being blighted by crime and antisocial behaviour.
In response to our article, Merseyside Police revealed a wide range of actions it is taking to try and tackle some of the problems that Kensington is experiencing. Another action police are taking in Kensington is the removal of phone boxes. The force is working with BT to remove several phone boxes, which are "known to increase anti-social behaviour and criminality due to their enclosed nature." The phone boxes will be replaced by emergency contact points.
Merseyside Police says it continues to work with Red Umbrella, which is a project that supports people involved in sex work or experiencing exploitation to try and tackle the crime and violence they experience. The programme works to identify vulnerable women involved in sex work and offer them support to try and move them away from this activity.
