Tue, May 21st 2024 at 7:00 PMPublic comments about a rule to the state of Texas’s abortion ban were shared during Monday’s online video forum held by the Texas Medical Board . The forum was specifically about the board’s proposed list of medical exceptions that would allow someone to get an abortion.

Dennard was not the only licensed medical professional to voice her concerns. Jason Morrow asked the board to explicitly state that no physician would face repercussions for performing an abortion under the rule’s guidelines. The former Texas state senator took exception to the board’s representation during Monday’s meeting. The TMB has 19 members on its board, but only Sharif Zaafran, the board’s president was in attendance.Davis, along with many others, was concerned about the board requiring doctors to provide necessary documentation for medical emergency abortions. Many voiced that this requirement is beyond standard practice.

There were also questions about when a doctor should record that documentation, which both Carlton and Zaafran assured did not need to be done prior to the performing of an abortion.
