Shadow Veterans Affairs Minister Barnaby Joyce says schools should be “allowed” to voice their views as the Presbyterian church fights for the right to deny leadership roles or admission to students and staff who are gay or having pre-marital sex.
“If people say that doesn’t align with my values, then you should pick another school,” Mr Joyce told Sky News Australia.
“It’s a messy one, but I just think in terms of a right to say, ‘I have these values, and I want the school to have those values’ – because that’s why I’m putting my hand in my pocket to pay money. “If you go to public schools and there are great public schools, they won’t ask you those questions – there are always alternatives.”
