Footage is doing the rounds on the internet that appears to show Chinese commandos making use of realistic bird-like drones.

Technical information on the drones is thin on the ground, but it is clear the PLA is training its special ops troops to use them.New footage of new bird-like drones allegedly used by China’s People’s Liberation Army “Sea Dragon” commandos has been released. Apparently designed to resemble birds, like pigeons, from a distance, these drones are primarily intended for use as reconnaissance devices as a part of China’s 2018 Pigeon Program.

When observed from a distance, the bird-like drones are virtually indistinguishable from real birds and can even replicate the wing-flapping motion during flight. Although this footage confirms that the PLA has begun deploying these drones, the technical specifications and detailed characteristics still need to be discovered.

Biomimetic unmanned aerial systems like ornithopters can carry payloads of advanced sensors and other technologies that could provide significant operational advantages. For example, these ornithopters could be used to surveil enemy forces and carry out targeted attacks with reduced chances of detection.could also be configured to carry various payloads, including micro-warheads.

A few years later, in 2022, Chinese engineers revealed an impressive mechanical flying bird weighing 3.5 pounds and featuring a 6.6-foot wingspan. These drones were powered by a lithium battery and could reportedly remain airborne for an hour and a half.about a new “Small Falcon” drone unveiled by China. Footage of this drone was released by China Central Television , and the drone is claimed to be the world’s most realistic bird-like ornithopter.
