Is it a waste of money to snooze on your holiday or a journey to wellbeing? These stays may convert you to a sleep tourist.

From luxury hotels to basic B&Bs, accommodation providers around the world have entered a new era of prioritising sleep for their guests.

However, even larger hotel chains are heightening their sleep programs and services because of the “wellness” appeal of a good night’s sleep. In western Sydney’s Pullman Penrith, rooms feature digital tablets with bespoke sleep therapy menus offering services such as face and eye masks, aromatherapy pillow sprays, sleep-promoting teas and an extensive pillow menu. You can also cue up background sounds, colours and room lighting to soothe you into sleep or wake up.

At Switzerland’s Romantik Hotel Hornberg, not only do they have a great cocktail menu but guests have their pick of a pillow menu where comfort comes in the form of pillows stuffed with Swiss grains and cherry stones , while in Paris, Hotel Montalembert offers buckwheat-filled pillows, supposedly great for neck support. Even Qantas’ first class customers can swap luxury Sheridan pillows for memory foam or a feather and down option.
